Asbestos Exposure, Mesothelioma Doctors and Lawyers in San Ramon, California

San Ramon is a city in the San Ramon Valley region of California. Located in Contra Costa County, San Ramon has a current population of about 72,000. San Ramon is a suburban city with a variety of industry, much of it concentrated in the Bishop Ranch development, which incorporates business parks, housing units and retail space on a 585-acre parcel of former ranch land. Among the city's top employers are Chevron, AT&T, IBM, and San Ramon Regional Medical Center, all of which are located at Bishop Ranch. San Ramon is also home to a branch of the University of San Francisco.

American settlement in San Ramon began in 1850. A stagecoach line connecting the town to Oakland was established in 1864, and was followed by a branch of the Southern Pacific railroad in 1891. Since San Ramon was a rail terminus at that time, a depot, engine house and turntable were also built. Agricultural activity was the main industry in San Ramon for most of the 19th and early 20th century. Sheep and cattle were raised, along with pears, walnuts and grains. With increased car ownership and highway development in the mid-20th century, San Ramon became more suburbanized. Light industry also increased, with companies such as Eastman Kodak and Filper Corporation, which made fruit handling equipment. Aerojet-General Nucleonics, once the city's largest employer, opened its reactor research plant in 1957, and maintained its own fire brigade. In 1970, the Bishop Ranch property was acquired by Western Electric, with the intent of building a new manufacturing plant. Instead, some of the land was resold as residential lots. The remainder became the Bishop Ranch Business Park, which currently houses more than 500 companies, including Chevron, which moved its headquarters to San Ramon in 2002.

San Ramon's history of industry and development makes asbestos exposure an ongoing concern for workers, who may be at risk for mesothelioma and other asbestos-related diseases. If you were exposed to asbestos in San Ramon, you may benefit from seeking the advice of a mesothelioma lawyer.
