Mesothelioma Doctors, Lawyers and Asbestos Exposure in Amarillo, Texas

Amarillo, originally named Oneida, is the 14th largest city in Texas, the largest in the Texas Panhandle, and the county seat of Potter County. The city is located on the boundary of Potter and Randall Counties in the High Plains of the Texas Panhandle. Home to nearly 175,000 residents, Amarillo’s population growth and commercial development are largely concentrated in the southern and northwestern parts of the city. Amarillo was once proclaimed as the "Helium Capital of the World" for having one of the nation's most productive helium fields; "The Yellow Rose of Texas", as the city takes its name from the Spanish word for yellow; and most recently the "Rotor City, USA" because of its V-22 Osprey hybrid aircraft assembly plant.

During the 1930s, Amarillo was devastated by the Dust Bowl and entered an economic depression. World War II led the establishment of Amarillo Army Air Field in east Amarillo and the nearby Pantex Army Ordnance Plant, which produced bombs and ammunition. After the war, both of the facilities were closed. The Pantex Plant was reopened in 1950 and produced nuclear weapons and closed again in 1968. Today, Amarillo is considered the regional economic center for the Texas Panhandle as well as Eastern New Mexico and the Oklahoma Panhandle. Amarillo operates one of the largest meat packing areas in the United States. Some of Amarillo's major employers include Amarillo Independent School District, Amarillo College, Bell Helicopter Textron, Owens-Corning, and ASARCO.
