Asbestos Exposure, Mesothelioma Doctors and Lawyers in Rome, Georgia

Asbestos Exposure in Rome, GA

The city of Rome was founded in 1834 on the idea to build a community that would develop into a booming riverboat trade center. Like its big sister city of Italy, Rome is known as the “City of Seven Hills” due to its location in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains, where the Etowah River and Oostanaula River merge to form the Coosa River. Soon after its founding Rome became a major river port, with boats transporting cargo, mail and passengers in and out of the city. Today, Rome is the largest city in northwest Georgia.

The turn of the 20th century brought cotton and cheap labor to the Rome area and soon, the textile industry dominated the economy. In 1928, the American Chatillon Corporation, later called Celanese Corporation, began construction of a rayon plant. It was the first rayon plant in northwestern Georgia and the first unionized plant in the city. Rome continued to attract business and in the 1950s, General Electric Company and Georgia Power Company opened their doors. Inland Container Corporation, formerly known as Georgia Kraft Company, opened a paper mill in Rome and began production of linerboard in 1954. Many of the old industries of Rome have died out in recent years, however, the city has witnessed new growth in the technical metals and automotive parts industries. Currently, large employers in Rome include Brugg Cable & Telecom, Suzuki Manufacturing of America, Neaton Rome and Pirelli Tire.

A diverse manufacturing industry puts Rome in high risk category for exposure to asbestos products. Workers in Rome exposed to asbestos may be at risk to develop malignant mesothelioma. Mesothelioma treatment options in the Rome area are available at the bottom of this page.
