The original Kearny Generating Station was a large power plant that opened in 1925. The five smokestacks of the building along the Hackensack River are a familiar site in South Kearny. It was owned and operated by Public Service Electric & Gas Company (PSE&G) and was once the largest power station in New Jersey.
