Asbestos Exposure, Mesothelioma Doctors and Lawyers in Muscle Shoals, Alabama

Since its incorporation in 1923, Muscle Shoals has become known as the fastest growing city in northwest Alabama. Home to nearly 12,000 residents, Muscle Shoals is in Colbert County situated along the Tennessee River. Muscle Shoals is a thriving town in the heart of “The Shoals”, an area comprised of Muscle Shoals, Florence, Sheffield, and Tuscumbia. The Shoals area is largely known for its music recording industry; as the birthplace of both W.C. Handy, Father of the Blues and Helen Keller, First Lady of Courage; and as home to the Alabama Music Hall of Fame.

Shortly after Muscle Shoals was incorporated, the city began to grow. The Tennessee Valley Authority Act was signed in 1933 by President Roosevelt as part of the New Deal. The Tennessee Valley Authority, initially based in Muscle shoals, was designed to develop and modernize the entire river valley. This development project contributed to the conservation and utilization of natural resources. Accordingly, Muscle Shoals initiated plans for an elementary school, water works, electric power system, and the installation of a telephone system. The 1950s was a period of industrial expansion for Muscle Shoals. Companies such as Reynolds Metals, Union Carbide Metals, Diamond Shamrock and Ford Motor Company were operating in Colbert County. In the 1960s, Fame Recording Studio and Muscle Shoals Sound Studio opened and attracted famous bands and singers, such as Aretha Franklin, the Osmond’s, Bob Dylan and the Rolling Stones to record songs earning Muscle Shoals the nickname “The Hit Recording Capital of the World.” Both FAME Studios and Muscle Shoals Sound Studios are still operating in the city. The 1990s has brought major change to the city of Muscle Shoals. During the 1990s, the city made significant progress with a new post office, a new city library, a comprehensive flood control plan, a state-of-the-art early warning weather siren system and many miles of newly paved roads. More recently, the city of Muscle Shoals was noted as one of the area’s fastest growing residential and business developments.

Use of asbestos containing products in companies like Reynolds Metal Company, Tennessee Valley Authority, Diamond Shamrock and Ford Motor Company has been a problem for many years. Exposure to asbestos at these jobsites as well as many others located in Muscle Shoals puts you at risk for developing mesothelioma, a type of asbestos disease.
