Mesothelioma Doctors, Lawyers and Asbestos Exposure in Niagara Falls, New York
Niagara Falls is a city of approximately 55,000 residents in upstate New York. Niagara Falls and its Canadian neighbor, Niagara Falls, Ontario, are situated on opposite banks of the Niagara River near the cluster of waterfalls for which both cities are named. The power and grandeur of the falls have long drawn people to the area for both commerce and recreation. Hydroelectric power generated by the falls was particularly attractive to the chemical and petroleum processing industries, with companies such as Occidental Chemical Corporation and Niacet Corporation operating plants in Niagara Falls. Niagara Falls State Park, which encompasses Goat Island, American Falls and Bridal Veil Falls, has been a popular destination for families and newlyweds since 1885, prompting the city's nickname of "Honeymoon Capital of the World."
Niagara Falls was settled sometime in the 17th century, and was not incorporated as a city until 1892. Industry in Niagara Falls took a leap forward in 1895, the year that the Niagara Falls Power Company began generating hydroelectric power, and Jacob Schoellkopf completed his second hydroelectric plant. By the time of the Pan-American Exposition in 1901, more than two dozen companies were operating on property owned by the Niagara Falls Power Company, including Carborundum Company, Union Carbide Company, and Niagara Electro Chemical Company. In 1918, the two power companies merged, retaining the Niagara Falls name. Soon paper, rubber, plastics and other industries moved to Niagara Falls to take advantage of the inexpensive and abundant electrical supply. The devastating collapse of the Schoellkopf Power Station in 1956 reduced local generating capacity. This led to an industrial and economic decline. Tourism is currently the main revenue generator for Niagara Falls, attracting nearly ten million visitors annually to the falls and entertainment venues such as the Seneca Niagara Casino, which opened in 2003.

Asbestos-Related News in New York
After a recent steam pipe explosion in New York City, residents are concerned about potential exposure to asbestos after its presence was confirmed. The steam pipe exploded after extreme underground pressure, pushing up the street and leaving a large crater in its wake. Since the pipe was installed decades ago, it was immediately a concern that the pipe may have contained asbestos. A similar explosion happened last year in Baltimore.
A new study is suggesting researchers found a new organ in the human body, which could have a big impact on the diagnosis and treatment of cancers, including mesothelioma. These researchers found a dense network of connective tissues and fluid-filled compartments in the body, called the interstitium, that could be identified as an organ because of the tissue groups’ abilities to perform specialized tasks for various other organs.
