Doctor Overview

Dr. Jennifer Nishimura is a thoracic surgeon at the University of New Mexico (UNM) Comprehensive Cancer Center. She focuses on treating diseases in the chest, especially the lungs. Located in Albuquerque, New Mexico, she is a part of a multidisciplinary care team at the Center.

She specializes in minimally invasive surgeries. For example, she performs video-assisted thoracic surgery (VATS). This procedure can help diagnose pleural mesothelioma. Some other minimally invasive techniques use robots to improve precision and control.

Dr. Nishimura received her medical degree from Case Western Reserve University. She completed her residency at Veterans Affairs Medical Center. In addition to practicing medicine, she is an assistant professor at UNM in thoracic surgery.
