History of Brown Surgical Associates
Brown Surgical Associates (BSA) is the largest multidisciplinary surgical practice in Rhode Island. It used to be called University Surgical Associates. BSA changed its name in 2020 to reflect its ties with The Warren Alpert Medical School at Brown University.
The practice is a member of Brown Physicians, Inc. Through this group, BSA works with other Brown-affiliated medical providers. Together, they offer many services that support the health of patients across southern New England.
BSA employs 50 surgeons who practice 15 different specialties. The group operates 13 clinics throughout Rhode Island and southeastern Massachusetts. BSA’s doctors teach at Brown and practice at several local hospitals.
The Surgical Oncology division at BSA treats many types of cancer, including mesothelioma. Its surgeons use advanced and minimally invasive techniques to remove tumors.
Mesothelioma Care at Brown Surgical Associates
At Brown Surgical Associates, patients with mesothelioma can get care through the Surgical Oncology division. Surgeons work with oncology teams to create personalized treatment plans.
BSA offers advanced surgeries for mesothelioma and related cancers. These include laparoscopic staging and hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC). These treatments are often used for abdominal diseases like peritoneal mesothelioma. The center’s surgeons also work with chest specialists for thoracic diseases like pleural mesothelioma.
As part of Brown’s network, BSA doctors work on clinical studies and research with partner hospitals. Through these connections, patients may access clinical trials and new surgical methods not available everywhere.
