History of UK Markey Cancer Center
UK Markey Cancer Center was founded in 1982. The center is dedicated to providing advanced cancer therapies and connecting patients to essential services. It has a reputation as a regional leader in fostering collaboration among cancer researchers and other specialists.
In 2006, UK HealthCare established the Markey Cancer Center Affiliate Network, formalizing collaboration among 19 affiliate sites in Kentucky. In 2015, it created the Markey Cancer Center Research Network. These clinician alliances study innovative ways of detecting and treating cancer.
In 2017, UK Markey launched its Molecular Tumor Board. This is a service for patients at the cancer center and its regional affiliates. The board is a group of experts who analyze the genetic properties of tumors to recommend treatments tailored to individual patients.
Mesothelioma Care at UK Markey Cancer Center
Mesothelioma patients can receive treatment from UK Markey’s mesothelioma team. Team members include specialists who collaborate on individualized treatment plans. Doctors at the cancer center have access to advanced technology to treat this rare cancer.
UK Markey also gives patients access to clinical trials, with more open trials than any cancer center in the region. Patients can ask their doctors whether they are eligible to access emerging treatments through clinical trials.
