History of Indiana University Health
Simon Cancer Center is part of Indiana University (IU) Health. IU Health is the state's largest health system. The system has served more than 1.2 million people across Indiana through a network of hospitals and specialty centers. IU Health employs 39,000 team members and has more than 2,600 hospital beds statewide.
The IU Health Simon Cancer Center opened in 1992. In 2006, it adopted its current name, the Melvin and Bren Simon Comprehensive Cancer Center. The center operates through a partnership between the IU School of Medicine and IU Health. Simon Cancer Center works with IU Health's statewide network to bring cancer care and clinical trials to patients throughout Indiana.
In 2019, Simon Cancer Center achieved Comprehensive Cancer Center status from the National Cancer Institute (NCI). This is the highest level of recognition awarded by the NCI to cancer centers. The designation reflects the center's work in cancer research, clinical trials and patient care. Simon Cancer Center is the only NCI-designated comprehensive cancer center in Indiana.

Mesothelioma Care at Indiana University Health
Patients can seek mesothelioma care at Simon Comprehensive Cancer Center. The center brings together cancer specialists in medical oncology, radiation oncology and surgical oncology. This team-based approach helps treat rare and complex cancers like mesothelioma.
The center coordinates mesothelioma treatment through its lung cancer, thoracic surgery and complex cancer care services. Treatment options include chemotherapy, immunotherapy, radiation and surgery.
