Orb Funkee Squeeze Toys Recalled Over Potential Asbestos Exposure
Written by Amy Zappone on October 1, 2026
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced a recall of more than 121,000 Orb Funkee squeeze toys over possible asbestos contamination. The May 21, 2026, recall affects toys sold at Walmart and Ollie’s Bargain Outlet stores. They are soft, stretchable “monkees” filled with sand.
According to the CPSC, the recalled toys may contain fibrous tremolite in the sand. This type of asbestos can pose health risks if inhaled.
Which Orb Funkee Toys Are Recalled?
This recall involves two models of Orb Funkee squeeze toys with the date code 3102491A. The affected products were sold nationwide from February 2025 through April 2026 for $5 – $40.
The recalled products include:
- Model 17451: A large, golden “monkee” with the date code printed on its hand.
- Model 41929: An assortment of smaller “monkees” available in colors including orange, purple and green. The date code is printed on the back of the toys.
CPSC directs anyone who owns these toys to immediately take them away from children and stop using them. Consumers can contact The Orb Factory for a refund. According to the CPSC, consumers requesting a refund will be asked to:
- Contact The Orb Factory and verify the toy’s code and lot number.
- Place the toy in a heavy-duty plastic bag and seal the bag with tape.
- Submit a photo of the bagged product.
If a recalled toy has been punctured or ruptured and sand has escaped, the CPSC recommends additional precautions. The Orb Factory says to use a mask, gloves and damp cloths when collecting the leaked sand. Consumers should place the toy, cloths, mask and gloves in a heavy-duty plastic bag, place that bag inside a second bag and seal the second bag with tape. The sealed bag should then be disposed of in accordance with applicable local or state laws and regulations.
The toys were manufactured in China and imported by The Orb Factory Limited, which does business as ORB Toys. As of May 21, 2026, no injuries or incidents had been reported.
What Does This Recall Say About Asbestos Safety?
The recall is a reminder that asbestos can still present a safety concern in consumer products. It also highlights the safety requirements that apply to children's toys.
Children’s products designed or intended primarily for children 12 years of age or younger generally must be tested by a CPSC-accepted third-party laboratory. They must also be certified as complying with applicable federal children’s product safety requirements.
The federal toy safety standard includes requirements applicable specifically to squeeze toys in addition to requirements that apply to toys more broadly.
Regulations can’t prevent every unsafe product from reaching consumers. But testing and regulatory oversight help provide important safeguards for children and their families.
