Dr. Carrie B. Lee is a thoracic medical oncologist at N.C. Basnight Cancer Hospital in North Carolina. She specializes in treating chest cancers, like lung cancer and pleural mesothelioma. At the University of North Carolina (UNC) at Chapel Hill’s Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center, Dr. Lee is the Chief Medical Officer for UNC Lineberger’s Clinical Research Program. She plays a major role in designing and leading clinical trials at UNC. Dr. Lee also serves as medical director of the N.C. Basnight Cancer Hospital’s Clinical Trials Unit, which offers patients access to early-phase and cutting-edge treatment options.

Her research centers on improving treatments for lung cancer. Dr. Lee studies how new drugs work in the body, how patients respond to them and how to make treatment plans safer and more effective. She has written or co-written many peer-reviewed publications, including research featured on medical research platforms and in oncology meetings.

Dr. Lee holds both an MD and an MPH, which support her focus on population health and evidence-based cancer care. Through her work as a clinician and researcher, she continues to expand treatment options for patients with complex thoracic cancers like pleural mesothelioma.
