Asbestos Exposure, Mesothelioma Doctors and Lawyers in Cartersville, Georgia

Originally established in 1850 and formally incorporated in 1872, the city of Cartersville sits on Etowah River and Lake Allatoona in the rolling hills just north of Atlanta. Cartersville is named after the notable North Georgia planter and entrepreneur, Farrish Carter, and is home to the Etowah Indian Mounds Historic Site, a 54 acre state park containing village remnants that were constructed during the Paleo-Indian Period. The city experienced great economic growth largely thanks to Georgia’s number one cash crop, cotton, and the construction of the railroad.

Cartersville’s natural resources and transportation corridors supplemented city development up until 1924, when the boll weevil destroyed the city’s cotton crops, sending the area into economic depression. In 1940, work began on the Allatoona Dam which helped revive the economy. Upon completion, the Allatoona Dam provided Cartersville with a major source of power, and soon thereafter, Bowen Power Plant came online and began producing electricity. The coal fired power station is owned by Georgia Power and has the second largest steam-electric generating capacity of any coal fired power plant in North America. Other industries attracted to Cartersville include Thompson Weinman Company, a barite mine; Chemical Products Corporation, a producer of barium chemicals; and Anheuser-Busch, the United States’ largest brewing company. Despite the city’s heavy industrial foundation, present-day Cartersville attracts many visitors to its state parks, recreational areas and hiking trails. Additionally, steps are being taken to revitalize the downtown area and to preserve its history for generations to come.

Asbestos exposure in the workplace has been a problem in Cartersville through the years due to the city’s substantial industrial base, where asbestos products were used regularly. If you were exposed to asbestos in Cartersville you may be at risk to develop certain asbestos-related diseases, including mesothelioma. For those diagnosed with mesothelioma in Cartersville, the area has quality medical care, cancer centers and doctors that can provide mesothelioma treatment options.
