Doctor Overview

Dr. Gary M. Hochheiser is the director of thoracic surgery and thoracic oncology, as well as the medical director for the Lung Screening Program at Maine Medical Center in Scarborough, Maine. He has been with Maine Medical Center as a partner since 2016, returning after completing his residency at the center in 2001 and a fellowship with Vanderbilt University Medical Center in 2004.

Dr. Hoccheiser specializes in minimally invasive procedures to treat thoracic diseases, including pleural mesothelioma. His interests include lung-sparing cancer surgery, surgical treatment of lung and esophageal cancer and treating diseases of the esophagus. He is board-certified in thoracic and cardiac surgery, and is currently pursuing a certification in surgical oncology.
