Asbestos Exposure, Mesothelioma Doctors and Lawyers in Lakeland, Florida

Located midway between Tampa and Orlando, the city of Lakeland was founded in 1882 by Abraham Munn.  Munn purchased 80 acres of land in what is now downtown Lakeland, Florida.  On January 1, 1885, Lakeland became an incorporated city.  As suggested by its name, the city has numerous lakes within its borders.  A number of lakes are natural but most are former phosphate mine pits that eventually filled with water.  The more prominent lakes are Lake Parker, Lake Hollingsworth, Lake Morton, Lake Mirror, and Lake Gibson.

The Florida land boom of the early 20th century brought considerable expansion to Lakeland as established rail lines ran through the city and major structures were built.  Lakeland’s first public utility, Lakeland Electric & Water, expanded and built the Lake Mirror Power Plant in 1916.  The demand for electric power continued to increase and in 1949, construction started on the Lake Parker Plant.  The World War II era saw the opening of the Lodwick School of Aeronautics, owned by aviation pioneer Al Lodwick, who trained several thousand men to fly for the U.S. Army Air Corps.  Lakeland’s Drane Field, located in the southwest side of Lakeland, became the site where B-24 bomber crews trained. The city of Lakeland continues to grow today, with a population of over 90,000.  Current industry varies from citrus, cattle, and phosphate mining to tourism, medicine, transportation, and music.  The largest employers in Lakeland are FedEx, Saddle Creek Corporation, GEICO, and Lakeland Regional Medical Center.

Use of asbestos containing products in Lakeland’s manufacturing, construction, and industrial settings has been an issue for many years.  If you or a loved one have been diagnosed with mesothelioma in Lakeland, you may benefit from contacting Dr. Lary Robinson.  Additionally, mesothelioma lawyers may be able to offer guidance if you were exposed to asbestos in Lakeland and then diagnosed with mesothelioma.
