Asbestos Exposure, Mesothelioma Doctors and Lawyers in Coffeyville, Kansas

The City of Coffeyville is located along the Verdigris River in Kansas. It has a current population of just fewer than 10,300, making it the most populous city in Montgomery County. Coffeyville has a long tradition as a center for commerce and industry, though it may be most famous as the site of the Dalton Gang's last, unsuccessful bank robbery attempt in 1892. Several local attractions and historic sites commemorate the event, including the Dalton Museum, Dalton Defenders Plaza and Death Alley, and Elmwood Cemetery, where three of the gang members are interred. Other sites of interest include the Aviation Heritage Museum and the restored 1928 Midland Theater.

Coffeyville was first settled as a frontier trading post in 1869. The Leavenworth, Lawrence & Galveston Railroad ran a line by the trading post in 1871, and the new city, named for the trading post's proprietor, Colonel James A. Coffey, was incorporated two years later. Initial industries included cattle ranching and flour milling. The Rea Patterson Milling Company was established in 1894, and is continued today by the Bartlett Milling Company. In the early 20th century, industrialists realized the potential of Coffeyville's natural gas and clay deposits. By 1910, Coffeyville had eight glass factories and five brickworks. Although many of these companies had closed or left Coffeyville by the 1920s, firms such as the Mason Fruit Jar Company, Ball Brothers Glass Factory and Vitrified Brick Company were well known in their day. During World War II, components for the Norden bombsight were manufactured at Coffeyville Multiscope. Current industries in Coffeyville include petroleum refiners Coffeyville Resources Refining & Marketing (operated by CVR Energy, Inc.), a Sherwin Williams raw materials plant, and the John Deere Coffeyville Works. Amazon.com's largest distribution center has been located in Coffeyville since 1999.
