Mesotheoma
Mesotheoma is an often misspelled word by those seeking information about the asbestos disease called "mesothelioma." This oftentimes fatal cancer is also referred to as asbestos cancer because exposure to asbestos is a primary cause for it.
At certain points in history, asbestos was used in a number of industrial, military and residential settings to guard against extreme heat and fire. It was also highly regarded as an effective insulation material. Those who worked with this substance were often in a position of having to cut it or work with it in a way that caused tiny particles to be released into the air. Once those particles were airborne it was very easy for those working with it or in the vicinity to breathe it in. If that occurred, the fibers could then get lodged in the chest wall or lungs thus setting the stage for the possibility of mesothelioma to develop.
Because this disease has a long latency period, in some cases thirty years or more, some individuals may have even forgotten that they worked at one of the thousands of asbestos jobsites in the U.S. If caught in the early stages there are effective mesothelioma treatment therapies available to help improve life expectancy and quality of life. The unfortunate fact about mesothelioma, however, is that to date there is still no cure for it.
