Mesotheoloma

Mesotheoloma is a misspelling of the word "mesothelioma." The asbestos cancer also known as mesothelioma cancer is caused by inhaling asbestos fibers. Asbestos is a naturally-mined mineral that possesses unique fire- and heat-resistant qualities, recognized as an excellent insulator for centuries. It was used extensively in several industries including aluminum plants, chemical plants, oil refineries and power plants.

When intact, asbestos does not cause concern, but when damaged or cut, it can release sharp fibers that become airborne and can lodge in the chest area upon inhalation. The fibers, which cannot be expelled, can result in the formation of tumors in the lining of the lungs (pleural mesothelioma), heart (pericardial mesothelioma), or abdomen (peritoneal mesothelioma).

Not everyone who works with asbestos will develop malignant mesothelioma. Some will develop other related diseases including asbestosis. Those who do develop cancer, however, will suffer chest pains, difficulty breathing, coughing, fatigue, and other pulmonary symptoms.

Mesothelioma treatment, depending on the stage at which the disease was caught, can involve surgery, chemotherapy, or radiation. These protocols, however, are not always successful. An unfortunate fact about mesothelioma is there is currently no cure for the disease and many victims succumb to it within two years of diagnosis.
