Mesotheliomia
Mesotheliomia is a misspelling of the word "mesothelioma." Much less common than other types of cancer, mesothelioma is, nevertheless, a very disease. Characterized by pulmonary-related symptoms such as breathing difficulties, fluid-filled lungs, coughing, and chest pain, mesothelioma causes are for the most part attributed to exposure to the toxic mineral asbestos.
Most people who develop mesothelioma do so because of exposure at the workplace. However, in recent years, it has become apparent that the disease can be acquired through secondary exposure as well, such as washing asbestos dust from the clothes of someone who worked with the mineral.
The various types of mesothelioma include pleural mesothelioma, peritoneal mesothelioma and pericardial mesothelioma. Victims are generally older individuals because the latency period for mesothelioma cancer can be up to 50 years. However, malignant mesothelioma has also been diagnosed in younger persons who were exposed during childhood. The age of the victim is sometimes a factor in determining the mesothelioma treatment options that are available . Today, traditional therapies are complemented with alternative mesothelioma treatments as well.
