Glenview, Illinois

Glenview is a suburban village in Cook County. It is located approximately 18 miles north of downtown Chicago. Known variously throughout the years as South Northfield, North Branch, and Oak Glen, the community was officially named Glenview in 1895. Increasing population and the desire of the citizens to form a governing body in the town, led to the incorporation of Glenview village in 1899. To the east and west, Glenview is bordered by more than 1,000 acres of forest preserve. Recreational facilities include 480 acres of park land and an 18-hole public golf course. Today, there are approximately 41,800 residents living within the 13 square miles that cover Glenview.

In 1923, the Curtiss-Reynolds Airport was constructed. However, by the early 1940s, the property was condemned and soon became the site of the Glenview Naval Air Base, which eventually became the headquarters for the U.S. Naval and Marine Air Reserve Training Command. In 1995, the base closed, and the site was transformed into a mixed residential and retail area.
