Rocky Hill, Connecticut

Settled in 1650, the town of Rocky Hill was part of Wethersfield until it was independently incorporated in 1843. Rocky Hill, named after the ridge along the northeast section of the Connecticut River (which forms Rocky Hill’s eastern border), is located in Hartford County. Rocky Hill has an estimated population of 17,950 and is considered a bedroom community as many of its residents commute to work in Hartford and New Haven. In 2003, Rocky Hill was voted "#1 Sportstown" in Connecticut. In 2007, the town was named #35 in Money Magazine's "Best Places to Live Top 100". Rocky Hill is an active commercial and business center, although primarily still residential.

Agriculture and farming have been major occupations in Rocky Hill since its settlement. Also, the Ferry Park area of Rocky Hill, located along the Connecticut River, was once a busy shipyard and a significant port of the region. The Silas Deane Highway and Cromwell Avenue are busy commercial thoroughfares in Rocky Hill. More than 290 retail and service related businesses are located along these routes. Rocky Hill is home to the headquarters of the Connecticut Lottery; WFSB-TV Channel 3; the State Veterans Home and Hospital; the Rocky Hill-Glastonbury Ferry, the nation's oldest continuously operating ferry; and Dinosaur State Park, one of the largest dinosaur track sites in North America.
