Peritoneal mesothelioma is a type of rare cancer that develops in the peritoneum, or lining of the abdomen. These malignancies often interfere with a patient's gastrointestinal function, and are quite difficult to treat. An oncologist with a specialty in these types of malignancies is generally part of a peritoneal mesothelioma patient's treatment team.
