Educational Background
Practicing since 1978, Dr. Wigneswaran is a graduate of University of Sri Lanka Medical School. He completed his internships at Kingston General Hospital and Darlington Memorial Hospital, both in England. He completed multiple residencies in the United Kingdom as well, and also traveled to the U.S. to complete residencies at the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota and The Children’s Hospital in Denver.
Clinical Research
Board certified in cardiothoracic surgery, Vigneswaran is well known for his work with lung volume reduction surgery and specializes in the surgical care of mesothelioma patients as well. As a researcher, he has also made strides in the field of thoracic diseases and lists his research interests as lung transplantation outcomes, lung cancer and mesothelioma surgery outcomes, ischemia reperfusion lung injury, and minimal access thoracic surgery. He participates regularly in clinical trials and has directed many.

A keynote speaker at many national and international conferences, Dr. Vigneswaran is the author of more than 65 articles and book chapters and has served on the editorial review board for a number of esteemed professional journals including Chest, Journal of Surgical Research, American Journal of Transplantation, Annals of Thoracic Surgery, International Surgery, Clinical Investigation, and the Journal of Heart and Lung Transplantation.
Vigneswaran is a member of numerous professional organizations in three different countries. These include the American College of Chest Physicians, American College of Surgeons, American Medical Association, American Thoracic Society, General Thoracic Surgical Club, International College of Surgeons, International Society of Heart and Lung Transplantation, Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, and the Society of Thoracic Surgeons.
