The facility uses a team approach in the treatment of cancer patients, offering multi-disciplinary groups of physicians and support staff who evaluate each new and existing patient and recommend treatment based on their findings.

The fact that the Wilmot Cancer Center is associated with a leading academic medical college in the area also allows consistent collaboration between doctors and scientists and brings treatments from the lab to the hospital as quickly as possible.

Treatment options at the University of Rochester Cancer Center, which boasts a brand new building with state-of-the-art facilities, include surgery, chemotherapy, radiation therapy, and immunotherapy. Patients also have access to numerous ongoing clinical trials that test new drugs like Cisplatin, Carboplatin, and Alimta®, and therapies for the treatment of cancer, like mesothelioma (a type of asbestos cancer).

Like other cancer centers, Wilmot Cancer Center provides a host of support services for cancer patients and their families including financial counseling, lodging assistance for out-of-town patients, stress management and other counseling services, transportation assistance, help with organizing home care, and a variety of support groups that address a host of different topics.
