CTCA Seattle Cancer Treatment and Wellness Center is a member of the Cancer Treatment Centers of America, a group of private cancer treatment facilities founded in 1982. Located in Renton, Washington on the shores of Lake Washington, CTCA Seattle employs a strategy of Patient Empowerment Medicine® which combines multidisciplinary cancer care with education and encouragement, allowing the patient to participate fully in decision-making and treatment planning. CTCA Seattle provides a variety of outpatient services, and lodging is available at special rates through several local hotels if needed.
History
Richard J. Stephenson was inspired to create the Cancer Treatment Centers of America following the death of his mother, Mary Brown Stephenson, from cancer in 1982. At the time, the focus of cancer treatment was more on the technical and clinical aspects of the disease itself, and less on the patient, a dismaying discovery for the Stephensons. As a result, Mr. Stephenson was determined to establish a new type of treatment facility, one where the patient’s emotional and physical needs would be given equal dignity and respect.
The first CTCA facility was opened in Zion, Illinois, with a mission to treat the whole patient through a combination of state-of-the-art diagnostics and medical treatments, and supportive care including spiritual counseling, mind-body techniques and nutritional services. Treating the whole person and allowing patients and their loved ones an active role in the treatment process make up the Mother Standard® of care which is the CTCA’s goal.
Since the original CTCA hospital opened, three more have been added to the network, along with the Seattle outpatient center.
Mesothelioma Treatment at CTCA Seattle Cancer Treatment and Wellness Center
Mesothelioma patients at CTCA hospitals are placed at the center of a multidisciplinary team composed of a medical oncologist, surgical oncologist, radiation oncologist and other specialists to develop a treatment strategy which may include traditional treatments such as surgery, chemotherapy and radiation therapy. In keeping with the CTCA’s guiding principle of patient-centered care, complementary therapies are available to support the patient’s overall well-being and minimize side effects of conventional medicine. These include pain management, mind-body techniques such as yoga and meditation, naturopathic medicine and physical rehabilitation.
CTCA tracks several lung cancer treatment statistics and outcomes, which provide guidance for overall improvements such as shorter clinic wait times and reduced blood draws. Such measures can help minimize stress for patients and their loved ones. Other amenities may include on-site salon and business services.
