The Carolina Pulmonary and Critical Care Center is affiliated with the Lexington Medical Center in West Columbia, South Carolina. The comprehensive network of health care is made up of various medical centers, departments, and services; including cancer care. The cancer program at the Lexington Medical Center is staffed with a collaborative group of specialists including surgeons, radiologists, radiation oncologists, medical oncologists, and pathologists who provide both inpatient and outpatient services. They devise recommended treatment plans based on diagnostic test results, medical history, and the current medical condition of each patient. A team of registered nurses and nursing assistants are fully qualified in cancer care with certifications in chemotherapy and biotherapy administration courtesy of the Oncology Nursing Society. The American College of Surgeons has accredited the cancer program at Lexington Medical Center for its achievements in health care, innovative procedures and technology.
History
In 1971, the Lexington County Hospital was opened to provide exceptional health care for the community in South Carolina. By the 1980s, the hospital began expanding to provide new services and programs for the public. They opened the state’s first satellite outpatient facility offering surgery, urgent care, lab services, radiology, and physical therapy. The hospital became known as Lexington Medical Center and the network of care expanded into four additional medical centers around the surrounding towns in Lexington County by the 1990s. The network’s largest medical facility was opened in 2001, and was able to offer advances in services to the community.
Mesothelioma Treatment at the Carolina Pulmonary and Critical Care Center
The Carolina Pulmonary and Critical Care Center is a branch of the Lexington Medical Center located in West Columbia, South Carolina. This center provides treatment for patients with mesothelioma and other lung diseases as well as critical care, and sleep medicine. Christopher Marshall, M.D., F.C.C.P., Paul M. Kirshchefeld, M.D., F.C.C.P., Sarkis S. Derderian, D.O., F.C.C.P., and Mohamed S. Soliman, M.D. make up the team of board-certified pulmonologists. Their specialties revolve around diagnosing, treating, and preventing various forms of lung disease.
