The Mesothelioma Cancer Alliance would like to take a moment to highlight Tammy Reed, the Mesothelioma Cancer Alliance Advocate of the Month for June. Tammy plans to be big contributor on our social community by offering support and words of wisdom to others affected by cancer. Below is an interview with Tammy about how Mesothelioma affected and changed her way of life and why she continues to spread the message of MCA.

MCA: Has cancer affected you in some way? If so, in what way? Tell us about your experience.

Tammy Reed: Mesothelioma took my father from me. Being daddy’s little girl, the affect it has had on me is devastation not only for myself, but for my family as well.

MCA: How has this shaped you as the person you are today?

Tammy Reed: Cancer has given me a desire to try and stop others from going through this devastation. I have a new direction in my life– to help others and stop asbestos use in the United States.

MCA: If you were affected by cancer, what are the two biggest things you learned through this experience?

Tammy Reed: The two biggest things I learned were to be thankful for each day and the opportunity to spend it with the ones you love and to take time to enjoy the little things. I want to add a third- stop cancer, especially mesothelioma.

MCA: What was your motivation to become the MCA Advocate of the Month?

Tammy Reed: I want to do what I can to stop mesothelioma. It was difficult for me to find a place where I could talk to others about this disease and find support. I want to be able to try my best to be able to help others through this difficult time and try to give them ideas of ways to find information and support.

MCA: If you could say one thing to the world about cancer, or mesothelioma specifically, what would it be?

Tammy Reed: I would say “This must stop. We must find a way to stop this horrible disease at any cost”.

MCA: Is there anything else you would like to say to the MCA community?

Tammy Reed: It is an honor to be named an advocate of the month. I hope I can live up to the expectations you all have. Please feel free to contact me to talk, vent or if you think I may be able to help you in any way.
