Learn More about this Cancer Center

A National Cancer Institute-designated Comprehensive Cancer facility, the Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center at the University of Southern California is a leader in both patient care and cancer research, offering the expertise of the scientists and physicians at USC's Keck School of Medicine combined with the latest cutting-edge technology available to aid in the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of all types of cancer, like mesothelioma (a type of asbestos cancer).

A part of this hospital and research campus, The Kenneth Norris Jr. Cancer Hospital is both an inpatient and outpatient facility, offering 60 inpatient beds designated specifically for cancer care and multiple exam and treatment rooms. Adjacent to the Comprehensive Cancer Center, this facility boasts a staff of cancer specialists who team with other medical professionals, including surgeons, pathologists, radiologists, and nurses, to offer the best possible care, including state-of-the-art treatment options. These include the use of CyberKnife® for delivering targeted radiation that focuses on the tumor and does less damage to surrounding areas.

In addition, USC/Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center provides separate centers for cancers that are specific to either men or women. The Donald G. Skinner, MD, Men's Health Center welcomes men with prostate, bladder, kidney, and testicular cancers as well as other types of the disease that most affect men, while the Lee Women's Health Center focuses on breast and gynecological cancers.

If qualified, cancer patients at Norris are offered participation in any number of clinical trials that are being conducted at the facility at any given time. The hospital's teams of experts can determine whether or not their patients are eligible for consideration for these studies, which test new drugs (like Carboplatin, Gemcitabine, and Alimta®) and treatments for cancer.

The researchers at Norris are involved in five translational programs which allow them to quickly bring their findings to the patients at the facility. These programs include developmental therapeutics, genitourinary cancers, gastrointestinal cancers, women's cancers, and leukemia and lymphoma.
