Mesothelioma Cancer Centers
St. Joseph Hospital’s Center for Cancer Prevention and Treatment offers comprehensive cancer care for residents of Southern California. Cutting-edge diagnostics, innovative treatment strategies, and multiple opportunities for clinical trials all make this cancer care facility the first of its kind in Orange County.
The Center for Cancer Prevention and Treatment at St. Joseph Hospital offers a nationally-recognized thoracic oncology program. Specializing in a comprehensive approach to treating lung cancer and other complicated thoracic conditions, such as mesothelioma, this hospital was rated as a high-performing hospital for lung cancer surgery by U.S. News & World Report (2016-2017).
St. Joseph Hospital optimizes patient care through treatment plans that encompass the most recent medical developments and clinical trials relative to the three main categories of lung cancer—small-cell lung cancer, non-small cell lung cancer, and malignant mesothelioma. This approach, coupled with adherence to the National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN) guidelines, produces survival rates at this cancer center that are 26% higher than the state or national averages.
Malignant mesothelioma, a rare form of cancer, often presents itself many years after exposure to asbestos. Cancer cells with this disease are found in the linings of the chest, abdominal cavity, and/or around the heart. Mesothelioma is an aggressive and difficult-to-treat form of cancer and thus, mesothelioma treatment usually consists of multi-modality therapy which includes surgery followed by radiation therapy or chemotherapy.
St. Joseph Hospital’s Center for Cancer Prevention and Treatment is the only hospital in the state of California selected as a participant in the National Cancer Institute (NCI) Community Cancer Centers Program. This partnership with the NCI allows patients at this center to participate in clinical trials that offer them access to breakthrough treatments, technologies, and procedures not available at other cancer centers.
