Asbestos Exposure, Mesothelioma Doctors and Lawyers in Oshkosh, Wisconsin

Located in northeast Wisconsin where the Fox River enters Lake Winnebago, Oshkosh is a city in Winnebago County, Wisconsin. Incorporated in 1853, Oshkosh is home to nearly 63,000 residents. It is likely best known for OshKosh B'Gosh, a manufacturer of overalls and children's clothing founded in Oshkosh in 1895. Though the company maintains corporate offices in Oshkosh, the OshKosh B'Gosh overalls are no longer made in Oshkosh. In 2010, Oshkosh was ranked by Business Week as a "Best Place to Raise Your Kids".

The first sawmill began operating in Oshkosh in 1847, and soon many sawmills lined the entire Fox River. The arrival of the railroad, the Civil War, and later, the great Chicago fire of 1871, further ignited a boom in Oshkosh's lumber trade. Much of the lumber used to rebuild Chicago was produced by Oshkosh sawmills. By 1873, 24 sawmills, 15 shingle mills and seven sash and door companies were in operation and Oshkosh became known as "Sawdust City." The Paine Lumber Company became the city's largest employer and the world's largest sash and door factory until the Great Depression caused much of that plant, as well as many of the others in the City, to close. Many of the successful area entrepreneurs and businessmen within the lumber industry made significant contributions to the community. Numerous structures which make up the city's historic areas today are largely a result of the capital and materials generated by the lumber and associated wood manufacturing industries. In 2008, Oshkosh had six historic districts. Today, Oshkosh is also home to the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh, as well as many thriving businesses including Oshkosh Corporation, Bemis, and Miles Kimball.

For years, asbestos containing products were often used in manufacturing and industrial settings such as those located in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. Individuals who worked with and/or around asbestos-containing products have the possibility of developing mesothelioma, a potentially terminal cancer. Mesothelioma attorneys may be able to provide guidance if you were exposed to asbestos in Oshkosh and then diagnosed with mesothelioma cancer.
