MCA ST. Judes

We at the Mesothelioma Cancer Alliance are truly excited today to present St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital with a check for $21,841 as part of our summer-long 50k to Cancer Twitter campaign.

As part of a working effort to enhance our social following, we pledged to donate $1 to cancer research for every Twitter follower acquired during the course of the campaign. Upon following our @CancerAlliance account, new members of our community were then able to vote which cancer research organization would receive the total sum from the campaign.

A robust social media outreach campaign, along with the help of television celebrities, professional athletes, and musicians, allowed for us to welcome nearly 22,000 new members into our social community, where we feature breaking news in cancer research, clinical trials, and promote general cancer awareness.

After receiving the most votes, we couldn’t be happier to present St. Jude with the funding to promote further research and the highest levels of care they have become known for.

“We’re very fortunate to have a social media community that is so active and supportive of our mission,” said Melanee Hannock, vice president of iGroup at ALSAC, the fundraising organization of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. “Opportunities like this will help St. Jude continue finding cures and saving children in communities everywhere.”

Presenting the check today was cancer survivor and Mesothelioma Cancer Alliance advocate, Heather Von St. James, her husband, Cameron and daughter, Lily. Heather embodies the hope and resilience that St. Jude instills in children, families, and the entire oncology community as they continue to press for a cure.

If you haven’t done so yet, we urge all our readers to follow us on Twitter and “Like” us on Facebook. We offer an open and collaborative community between mesothelioma and other cancer survivors, their family and loved ones, as well as members of the treatment and support communities.
