The mission included receipt, storage, maintenance, inventory, and issuance of items such as food, clothing, textiles, packages, petroleum products, pesticides, pressurized gases and general medical, industrial, construction, and electronic supplies. During World War II, Defense Depot Ogden was also used as an internment camp for German and Italian prisoners of war. Today, Ogden serves as a regional economic hub, housing local government for Ogden City and Weber County, local school districts, and the Internal Revenue Service. The IRS is the largest employer in Ogden, employing over 5,000 people. Other large employers include McKay Dee Hospital, Weber State University, and Convergys.
