Asbestos Exposure in Kansas City, MO

Kansas City is the largest city in Missouri and is the anchor city of the Kansas City Metropolitan Area, the second largest metropolitan area in the state. Kansas City is included in parts of four counties: Jackson, Clay, Platte and Cass and serves as one of two county seats of Jackson County, the other being Independence. Kansas City was founded in 1838 as the "Town of Kansas" and was incorporated in its present form in 1850. The city is recognized for its contributions to the musical styles of jazz and blues.

During the late 1800s, the railroads helped drive one of Kansas City's biggest early-day industries: cattle, making the city one of the world's major cattle markets. Since World War II, Kansas City has grown and prospered in innumerable ways. Annexations, mainly in the late 1950s and early 1960s, increased its area to more than 316 square miles, and its population has grown to nearly 460,000. Other significant developments have included completion of the 4,700-acre Kansas City International Airport and the world's only matched set of football and baseball stadiums in 1972, Kemper Arena in 1974, and H. Roe Bartle Exposition Hall in 1976. Kansas City also is known for its foreign trade zone, its underground storage industry and its automobile assembly plants. Ford Motor Company operates a large manufacturing facility just outside of Kansas City in Claycomo at the Ford Kansas City Assembly Plant. Additionally, Kansas City is one of ten regional office cities for the United States Government. The U.S. Government is the largest employer in the Kansas City metro area.
