Asbestos Exposure in Stockton, CA

Stockton is a city in the Central Valley of California. It is the county seat of San Joaquin County, and has a population of about 291,700. Originally a farming community, Stockton has expanded into manufacturing, telecommunications and other industries over the years. Among the city's top employers are St. Joseph's Medical Center, Diamond Foods, and the North California Youth Center. Stockton is also home to the University of the Pacific and National University. The former Stockton State Hospital, built in 1853 as California's first psychiatric hospital, is currently occupied by a campus of California State University.

Stockton was founded in 1849 and officially incorporated in 1850. The town became a transport hub for produce and other commodities via the San Joaquin River and later the Stockton Deepwater Channel to San Francisco Bay. Today, the Port of Stockton is still active, and has become a center for sustainable energy, including biodiesel and ethanol plants. Agriculture is also still present. During the late 18th century, Stockton began to grow as an industrial center. Benjamin Holt and his brothers founded the Stockton Wheel Company in 1883, precursor to tractor company Caterpillar, Inc. The U.S. Navy also had a significant presence in Stockton. The Pollock-Stockton Shipyard built lighter ships and net layers for the Navy during World War II. The Port of Stockton was also home to the Stockton Ordnance Depot from 1941-1956. The Stockton Naval Reserve Center on Rough and Ready Island was closed in 1996. Today, Stockton's location midway between San Francisco and Sacramento make it a favored location for regional offices of companies such as Duraflame, Golden State Lumber Company and Pacific Bell Telephone Company.

Stockton's diverse history of manufacturing and construction place it in a high risk category for asbestos exposure. Workers exposed to asbestos may be at risk for mesothelioma. You should know that asbestos law firms represent people from Stockton who were exposed to asbestos and have been diagnosed with mesothelioma.
