Asbestos Exposure in San Diego, CA

San Diego is the second-largest city in California. Located on San Diego Bay, the city has a population of about 1.3 million and is the county seat of San Diego County. Founded in 1769 as the Presidio and Mission of San Diego, the city was incorporated in 1850. San Diego has long had an active naval presence, and has been an aviation center as well. Today, tourism, manufacturing and biotechnology form an important part of the city's economy. San Diego's top employers include the United States Navy, the University of California, San Diego, and Sharp HealthCare.

San Diego developed quickly after 1900. The first Navy installation, a coaling point at Port Loma, was established in 1900; by 1930, the Navy's presence had expanded to include a naval base and training center, a hospital and two camps. The city hosted two World's Fairs, one in 1915 and one in 1935. Many of the structures built for the fairs remained in use, and an animal menagerie presented at the 1915 fair became the basis for the San Diego Zoo, now a popular tourist attraction. During the 1920s, San Diego became involved in the new field of aeronautical engineering. Companies such as Ryan Aircraft, which built the Spirit of St. Louis for Charles Lindbergh and Consolidated Aircraft, got their start in this period. World War II brought more defense and aerospace manufacturers to the area, but cutbacks in the late 20th century caused some decline. As a result, San Diego has tried to develop its biotech and research presence in recent years, represented by companies such as Biogen Idec, Merck, Pfizer and the Scripps Research Institute.

San Diego's diverse history of construction and manufacturing, particularly in fields known for their use of asbestos-containing materials, makes asbestos exposure, and the risk of mesothelioma, a cause of concern for workers. Mesothelioma clinics in and around San Diego are listed at the bottom of this page. Additionally, you should know that mesothelioma law firms represent people from San Diego who were exposed to asbestos and have been diagnosed with mesothelioma.
