All bricks are heavy duty, but fire bricks are designed to be tough and sturdy even under the worst conditions. As the name implies, they are made to hold up during a fire, and they are used in various industrial settings, chimneys and furnaces. Asbestos was popular amid most of the 1900's because it is able to resist and even help contain fire. Lawsuits were mounted against companies that made these goods, and many of them declared bankruptcy as a result. Ironically, this actually helped the majority of the manufacturers as they were able to reorganize and continue operating free of debt. They were, however, forced to create trust funds that contained millions and even billions of dollars to pay off people who were affected by their products.
