Boston, Massachusetts - The American Cancer Society and the Brigham and Women's Cancer Center are providing female cancer patients with an opportunity to attend a class entitled "Look Good...Feel Better." The class will begin at 5 PM today in the Kessler Health Education Library, and will go until 7 PM.
According to the Brigham and Women's Hospital website, the event will provide women with the chance to meet one on one with trained cosmetologists and makeup experts who will show them how to enhance their hair, nails and skin while undergoing cancer treatment.
Women suffering from mesothelioma are encouraged to attend the event. Mesothelioma is an aggressive and incurable form of cancer. There are three types of mesothelioma: pleural, peritoneal and pericardial, which affect the lungs, abdomen and heart, respectively. Dr. David Sugarbaker, the chief of thoracic surgery at Brigham and Women's Hospital, is a world-renowned doctor who specializes in the treatment of mesothelioma.
While malignant mesothelioma commonly affects men, the disease does occur in women. Studies show that women diagnosed with mesothelioma often suffer from peritoneal mesothelioma, and most that are diagnosed were exposed to asbestos second-hand, either in the workplace or at home. Many women who have been diagnosed reported exposure to asbestos while washing clothes belonging to another family member who worked with asbestos products.
"Look Good...Feel Better" will also be held on June 24th, and again in July. For additional information contact Nicole Baglione at 617-632-3226.
