Mesothlioma
Mesothlioma is a misspelled version of the word "mesothelioma" Asbestos, long recognized for its durability and excellent insulating properties, is the mineral responsible for the development of mesothelioma cancer.
This disease is often referred to as asbestos cancer and attacks the lining of the lungs (pleural mesothelioma), heart (pericardial mesothelioma), or abdomen (peritoneal mesothelioma), resulting in symptoms such as chest pain, fluid-filled lungs, difficulty breathing, and a persistent, dry cough.
Sometimes having a long latency period (as long as 50 years), malignant mesothelioma is most often contracted by those individuals who were exposed to asbestos on a regular basis, usually on the job. Those most susceptible include contractors, construction workers, shipyard workers, Navy veterans, plumbers and pipefitters, railroad workers and steel workers. Those who worked in specific types of industry (i.e. aluminum plants, chemical plants, oil refineries) were also at risk.
Treatment options are sometimes limited which makes receiving a mesothelioma diagnosis a life-changing event. There is currently no cure for mesothelioma.Other common misspellings:
