Mesothilioma
Mesothilioma is a misspelled variation of the word “mesothelioma”.
Mesothelioma is a cancer most often associated with individuals who worked directly with asbestos, but mesothelioma disease can also be contracted through secondhand exposure from family members who worked with the toxic mineral and brought it home after a day on the job. This is a particularly aggressive form of cancer. Mesothelioma symptoms include difficulty breathing, chest pain, and coughing. Usually, the pleura which is the lining of the lungs is affected by the disease but it can also involve the lining of the heart (pericardial mesothelioma) or abdomen (peritoneal mesothelioma).
Mesothelioma treatment generally involves chemotherapy or radiation but surgery may also be an option depending on the stage of the cancer at diagnosis. Because the disease usually remains latent in the body for 20-50 years, it is often diagnosed in Stage 3 or Stage 4, making treatment difficult and not terribly successful.
