Mesothileoma
Mesothileoma is a misspelling of "mesothelioma." A rare form of asbestos cancer for which the only known cause is exposure to asbestos, malignant mesothelioma kills thousands annually.
Mesothelioma disease develops when tiny, sharp asbestos fibers enter the airway and become lodged in the area around the lungs. Unable to be expelled once inhaled, these fibers cause scarring and sometimes develop into cancerous tumors.A mesothelioma diagnosis is sometimes difficult to make, especially if a connection to asbestos is not evident. Someone diagnosed with mesothelioma cancer, however, can have breathing difficulty, a persistent cough, chest pain, fatigue, and other debilitating symptoms. Diagnosis is usually made through the use of imaging tests (CT scans and MRIs) and biopsy. Once diagnosed, this form of cancer can be treated with surgery where appropriate as well as radiation and chemotherapy. Other therapies may be used for palliative measures, in order to keep the patient comfortable. Often diagnosed in its late stages due to a prolonged latency period, the disease carries a poor mesothelioma prognosis for most victims.
