Mesotheolima

Mesotheolima is a misspelled variation of the term "mesothelioma." Mesothelioma is a form of cancer sometimes referred to as asbestos cancer. Those diagnosed with mesothelioma are usually individuals who worked with the mineral on a regular basis, inhaling dangerous asbestos dust while on the job.

Many industries made widespread use of asbestos throughout much of the 20th century including aluminum plants, chemical plants, power plants and oil refineries. Some of the individuals most affected by this type of cancer include shipyard workers and Navy veterans, due to the extensive use of asbestos by the military; construction workers and contractors, because of the many building products containing asbestos; and auto mechanics, due to the use of the mineral in brakes, clutches, and other friction parts.

The disease is difficult to treat and is often resistant to the kinds of treatment that other cancers respond to, including chemotherapy and radiation. Victims of the disease often suffer debilitating pulmonary symptoms and significantly reduced quality of life.
