Mesophilioma
Mesophilioma is a commonly misspelled version of "mesothelioma." While many people may be unfamiliar with mesothelioma disease, those who worked in the asbestos industry are more than familiar with this form of asbestos cancer. It kills approximately 2,000 to 3,000 Americans each year and many others throughout the world.
Asbestos was once used in literally thousands of products and was lauded for its excellent heat and fire resistance. Those who worked in factories that manufactured the products, as well as aluminum plants, chemical plants and oil refineries were often victims of the disease. In addition, workers who used asbestos-containing products on the job also have been affected in large numbers.
The three main types of mesothelioma are pleural mesothelioma, pericardial mesothelioma and peritoneal mesothelioma. Mesothelioma does not respond well to conventional cancer treatments, usually because a mesothelioma diagnosis is not made until the disease has reached the later mesothelioma stages, usually Stage 3 or Stage 4. Individuals who develop the disease usually die within a year or two of diagnosis.
