Mesolioma

Mesolioma can be considered a misspelling of "mesothelioma." This rare, but often fatal, cancer continues to show up in new mesothelioma cancer cases each year. This is despite the fact that asbestos has been banned in the U.S. for several decades, since the late 1970’s in fact. This disease is somewhat unique in that it can have a long latency period. This means that someone exposed to asbestos 40 or 50 years ago might just now begin to see signs and symptoms of the cancer start to manifest.

There are many different types of workers from a variety of industries who were exposed to asbestos on the job without their knowing and more importantly without their knowing about the hazards associated with it because large companies did not want to disclose that information.

Most individuals diagnosed with mesothelioma will find that it has localized in the lining of one of three organs: the lungs (pleural mesothelioma), abdomen (peritoneal mesothelioma) or heart (pericardial mesothelioma). Mesothelioma symptoms can often resemble those of other more common respiratory ailments and can involve chest pain, breathlessness and coughing.

Anyone who suspects that they were previously exposed to asbestos and are now exhibiting symptoms should seek counsel first from their primary doctor and secondly from a mesothelioma doctor if the conditions warrant doing so. There are many diagnostic capabilities and treatment options now available for assessing and treating this cancer.
