Mesiothelioma
Mesiothelioma is many times seen as a misspelling for the term "mesothelioma," a type of cancer that has proven links to asbestos.
Mesothelioma most predominantly affects veterans who served on merchant marine ships, Navy ships or in Navy shipyards. It is also frequently seen in individuals who have a work history at chemical plants, powerhouses, aluminum plants and oil refineries to name a few. Homeowners have even been diagnosed with mesothelioma cancer as many asbestos products including floor tiles, insulation and ceiling tiles were used in home renovation and building projects.
Mesothelioma generally affects the lining of the lungs (pleural mesothelioma), but is also seen in the heart (pericardial mesothelioma) and the peritoneum (peritoneal mesothelioma).
