Mesathelioma
Mesathelioma is a misspelling of the word mesothelioma. The causes of mesothelioma are pretty much limited to exposure to the mineral asbestos. Malignant mesothelioma is a form of cancer that attacks the lining of various organs in the body including the pleura (pleural mesothelioma), pericardium (pericardial mesothelioma), and peritoneum (peritoneal mesothelioma).
Mesothelioma disease develops when an individual inhales airborne asbestos dust or fibers, released by asbestos that has been damaged or otherwise manipulated. Victims of mesothelioma cancer are usually individuals who have worked with the mineral, but recently, more and more instances of a mesothelioma diagnosis are due to secondhand exposure.
The disease has prompted lawsuits by mesothelioma attorneys against many companies that once manufactured or sold asbestos products. Even though most forms of asbestos have been banned in the U.S. since the late 1970s, new victims of the disease are still being diagnosed each year as it sometimes takes up to 50 years for the cancer and mesothelioma symptoms to surface.
