Meothelyoma
Meothelyoma is an often misspelled version of the word "mesothelioma” which is also referred to as asbestos cancer. This is primarily due to the causal relationship that exists between asbestos exposure and the disease as asbestos exposure is the only known cause of mesothelioma. Individuals who worked directly with asbestos when it was used prevalently as a fire-proofing material in industrial, military and residential settings are typically those diagnosed with the disease. There are, however, many documented cases of individuals diagnosed with mesothelioma from second hand asbestos exposure. These cases typically involve women who washed their husband’s work clothes that came home with asbestos fibers on them at the end of the day after working with asbestos on the job.
Mesothelioma is a disease for which there is no cure. The life expectancy of a mesothelioma victim can vary depending on the stage at which the disease is diagnosed. Unfortunately, when the disease is diagnosed in the later stages like stage 4 mesothelioma, the prognosis is often not favorable.
