Memothelioma
Memothelioma is an often misspelled word by those seeking information about the asbestos disease called "mesothelioma." This illness is sometimes also referred to as asbestos cancer because its single known cause is exposure to asbestos.
At one time, asbestos was used in numerous industrial, military and residential settings as a fire-proofing material. Those working with this mineral were often required to cut it, remove it or replace it, and in the process of working with it released microscopic asbestos fibers into the air. The fibers were then inhaled by those working with it or those working nearby. As a result, many were diagnosed with the disease years later as the mesothelioma latency period can be 30 years or more.
Mesothelioma treatment is available today at leading mesothelioma cancer centers across the country. While the traditional forms of treatment involve chemotherapy, surgery and radiation therapy that often have unpleasant side effects, there are a variety of alternative treatments that mesothelioma patients can utilize to help reduce stress, boost the immune system and enjoy better quality of life.
