Measothelioma

Measothelioma is a misspelling of the word "mesothelioma." This asbestos disease which is also known as mesothelioma cancer is caused by breathing in airborne asbestos fibers. Asbestos is a durable mineral that is naturally-mined. It was highly desired for use in manufacturing and industrial settings where fire and heat resistance materials were required in the construction of buildings and machinery. It was also a very useful insulation material. In its natural, undisturbed state, asbestos is not problematic. When it is cut or manipulated in any way, however, it can end up in the air where people working with it can breathe it in.

There are a variety of different types of mesothelioma which occurs in the lining of major organs. The primary organs usually affected in mesothelioma cases are the lungs (pleural mesothelioma), heart (pericardial mesothelioma), and abdomen (peritoneal mesothelioma). There are other types of asbestos related diseases that someone who has been exposed to asbestos might also develop including asbestosis.

Those diagnosed with malignant mesothelioma may develop shortness of breath, fatigue and chest pain. These are symptoms of common respiratory ailments making the diagnosis of this illness difficult at times. Because of this it is always best to obtain a professional opinion from your doctor if you are concerned about your health and prior asbestos exposure.
