Swan Island Shipyard - Portland, Oregon
Swan Island Shipyards: This yard was one of four shipyards targeted specifically designed to build T-2 tankers. It was built from an original investment from USMC of $23 million. It emerged during the fifth wave of shipbuilding expansion as an emergency yard, and it offered 8 waterways. The land that it was built on originally belonged to the Port of Portland. The Port bought the yard after the war ended and operated it as a common-user ship repair facility until 1999. Cascade General, Inc. then purchased the site and continues to run the yard as a ship repair facility.
