Portland Shipyard - Portland, Oregon
In 1942, Henry Kaiser pioneered modern, modular, shipbuilding at this ship yard at a lightning pace to meet wartime demand. Portland Shipyard (PSY) is the largest and most inclusive ship repair facility on the west coast. Owned and operated by Cascade General, the yard exists on 60 acres of land connected to the Pacific Ocean by the Columbia/Willamette shipping channel.
Portland Shipyard's Dry Dock 4 is the largest floating dry dock in both North and South America. It is 982 feet long with a capacity of 87,000 tons. The facility also boasts the Panamax (114 foot wide) Dry Dock 3, and Dry Dock 1, that are ideal for smaller craft. The yard runs 17 Whirley cranes, a 200,000 barrel ballast water treatment plant and provides 500,000 square feet of covered workspace. In addition, the shipyard benefits from continual modernization projects supported by its parent company Cascade General.
